Instagram orders US employees back to the office full-time
Starting 2 February, Instagram will enforce a strict back-to-office policy requiring its US staff to work on-site five days a week. That’s according to an internal memo from Instagram chief Adam Mosseri, reported by CNBC. The company says the move is meant to spur innovation and strengthen internal collaboration.
In addition to mandatory office hours, Mosseri wants to reduce the number of internal meetings. Employees are being encouraged to focus on building product prototypes and demoing them directly, rather than giving lengthy presentations. According to Mosseri, that should boost creativity and speed up product development.
The policy applies only to Instagram. Within parent company Meta, the broader return-to-desk mandate introduced in September 2023 remains in place, requiring employees at Facebook, WhatsApp, and other units to be in the office at least three days a week.
Instagram is far from alone in pushing for more in-person work. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more tech companies have been shifting back to full-time office work in an effort to promote collaboration and break down internal silos.
Amazon already imposed a five-day office week in January 2025. Companies like AT&T, Boeing, and Dell Technologies have rolled out similar policies, underscoring a clear trend toward a full-scale return to the office.
