OpenAI mobile app achieves record revenue of $1.35bn dollars
The ChatGPT mobile app from OpenAI has experienced significant revenue growth since its launch in May 2023. According to data from Appfigures, the app generated $1.35 billion (€1.2 billion) in revenue through July of this year, six times more than in the same period last year, when the app brought in $174 million (€149 million).
This impressive growth is reflected in the app’s overall performance, with global consumer spending on iOS and Android platforms totaling $2 billion (€1.7 billion). It should be noted that these figures only reflect revenue from purchases in mobile app stores and do not account for Web subscriptions or other sources of income.
The ChatGPT app has also seen a strong increase in downloads, reaching 318 million in 2025, up from the same period last year. India leads the total number of downloads with 13.7%, followed by the US with 10.3%. While India dominates in terms of downloads, American users contribute nearly 40% of the app’s total revenue, with an average spend per download of $10 (€8.54). Germany comes in second, accounting for 5.3% of total revenue.
ChatGPT tops the list when it comes to total revenue per installation. Other AI chatbot apps such as Claude, Grok, and Copilot follow ChatGPT in this area.
