Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 11 SE, its simplified and education-focused version of Windows developed as a counterpart to Google’s Chrome OS, will end in October 2026, five years after its launch.
The system only allows approved apps (such as Microsoft Office), runs apps in fullscreen mode by default, and syncs files via OneDrive.
Although Chromebook sales have slightly declined since 2022, Chrome OS continues to maintain a strong foothold in schools worldwide.
Microsoft recommends that users switch to another Windows 11 device to maintain support and security.
