Anthropic achieves $3bn annual revenue on back of demand for generative AI
Annual revenue at Anthropic, the developer behind the Claude chatbot, rose to $3 billion (€2.6 billion), up significantly from from forecasts of $1 billion (€881 million) in December 2024, and $2 billion (€1.7 billion) reported at the end of March 2025. This rapid growth underscores the increasing adoption of AI models in business.
A key factor contributing to Anthropic’s success is its expertise in code generation. The San Francisco-based start-up, backed by prominent investors such as Google parent Alphabet and Amazon, has gained recognition for its AI models that excel in computer programming. Products using Anthropics code generation capabilities have recently experienced significant growth and are being widely used.
This increase in demand positions Anthropic as an outlier among software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendors. The quarter-on-quarter revenue increases are unprecedented, according to some venture capitalists, reports Reuters.
While Antropic focuses on enterprise solutions, its competitor OpenAI has emerged as a consumer-focused company. OpenAI expects total revenue of more than $12 billion (€10.5 billion) by the end of 2025, up from $3.7 billion (€3.2 billion) in 2024. Most of OpenAI’s revenue comes from subscriptions to its popular ChatGPT chatbot.
OpenAI has reported significant growth in paying user licenses for its ChatGPT enterprise product, reaching 3 million in May, up from 2 million in February. Notably, T-Mobile and Morgan Stanley are among OpenAI’s enterprise customers.
In the consumer market, Anthropics Claude chatbot lags behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT in terms of adoption.
