Serving the copyright interests of over 3,500 members and with royalty income on their behalf of over €25 million annually, IMRO’s Dublin-based operation uses just under 50 PCs, four servers and has a network with leased line Internet connection.

‘We did have IT staff,’ says director of finance Brendan Griffin. ‘But we had the classic problems of a smaller organisation where the people with the expertise we needed were expensive and those who joined us tended to move on to gain more IT experience. So just under two years ago we looked at outsourcing as a solution. We engaged CK, found that worked very satisfactorily and it is fair to say they now function as our IT department.’

CK Business Electronics started with the day-to-day issues of network administration, adding and changing users and of course troubleshooting and problem-solving. From the beginning it has had a senior technician on the IMRO premises for a day a week. The early issues of antivirus, back-up and other security measures were followed by the standardising of user applications across the network and then a general upgrading to Windows 2000. Now the CK team is advising IMRO on planning the future of its IT systems to suit the growing needs of the organisation.
