Digital Vault is a fairly simple program that aims to make the process of encryption easy Ð in other words, it makes it possible for users to secure their documents and other data from prying eyes.

The program installs quickly and the first thing it does is check on the internet for updates.

Once open, there are two ways to protect files.

The first is to encrypt, or scramble, a single file, which can then be safely distributed or emailed.

In order to view the file, others will need Digital Vault, or the free viewer program, which can be downloaded from StompSoft’s website.

This tool works well, although it’s a fairly standard feature on compression programs such as WinZip, so it’s nothing to get that excited about.

The second way to use the program is to create a vault. This is a password-protected folder into which users can drag and drop files, which are then automatically scrambled.

This is a very useful feature, and one that can come in very handy if your PC is used by others. Vaults can be stored either on the main hard disk or on a USB memory key.

Each vault can be set to use the same master password as the program itself, or can have a password of its own. This is a good idea, but comes with the usual warning that if you forget the password, you will lose any data that’s stored in the vault.

Digital Vault’s features are suitable for a wide range of PC users, and the program is easy to use.  This is a good-value encryption tool that is easy to use for the novice.
