e|net has revealed that it will be creating 50 new jobs as well as investing €25 million over 10 years, in Ireland’s broadband infrastructure. The open access network operator made the announcement as Minister for Finance Michael Noonan, opened its new corporate headquarters in Plassey, Limerick. e|net is responsible for managing, maintaining and operating two phases of the State’s fibre-optic Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) programme.
The MAN infrastructure enables 94 towns across the country with an advanced technology platform capable of delivering cutting-edge communications and information services. Twenty of the jobs that are to be created will be based in Limerick and a further 30 positions will be in the construction sector nationwide during the rollout of the network.
Minister Noonan welcomed the news of the latest investment and new jobs, while stressing the importance of the MAN programme. Minister Noonan remarked that, the fibre-optic Metropolitan Area Networks will be important in supporting the development of enterprises throughout the country.” He added that “I especially welcome the 20 new jobs that will be created in Limerick.”
Conal Henry, CEO of e|net emphasised the importance of e|net’s commitment to delivering world class broadband to regional Ireland. Henry commented that the announcement of new jobs and investment “further underlines the central position e|net has taken in next generation telecommunications.” Henry added that, “the MAN programme is supporting Government policy, in particular by facilitating foreign direct investment across the regions.”
