Ten times faster: Iomega’s SuperSpeed USB 3.0 eGo drive

Iomega has unveiled a new generation of eGo portable and desktop hard drives, including a new smaller Compact model with up to 1TB in capacity, new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 portable and desktop models, and new high capacity FireWire 800 Mac portable version and desktop HDDs with up to 2TB of capacity.

All come bundled with the Iomega Protection Suite and are backward-compatible with USB 2.0 devices..

The manufacturer offers two USB interface versions of its eGo portable hard drive: the new 500GB SuperSpeed USB 3.0-powered eGo, and three capacity models of the USB 2.0 eGo portable version.

The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 eGo drive (pictured) features transfer speeds up to ten times faster than USB 2.0 models. The 500GB SuperSpeed USB 3.0 eGo drive works with the 3.0 standard offered on native USB 3.0 Windows laptop and desktop computers. For people still using USB 2.0 hardware, Iomega offers USB 3.0 adapter cards (sold separately) to insert into your USB 2.0 port.

The USB 2.0 eGo portable hard drive has a smaller enclosure than earlier models. Available in ruby red, midnight blue or silver, the drives come in capacities of 320GB, 500GB and 1TB.
