UPC second quarter results show further increase in subscriptions

UPC’s second quarter 2014 results have been released, showing an overall continued growth in subscription despite a slight dip in its customer base over the previous quarter.

A total of 1,091,600 subscriptions to its combined TV, phone and broadband services. This represents an increase of 70,100 over the same period in 2013.

Broadband remaned the most popular service offering, with a 10% increase in subscriptions over Q2 2013 to a total of 352,300. This was followed by digital TV on 324,500 subscriptions (a 0.3% increase) and phone subscriptions of 324,500 (an increase of 22%).

Breaking down the figures into actual subscribers who may be using more than one service, compared to the previous the first quarter of 2014 UPC lost 6,700 customers in the face of growing competition in the broadband space from eircom and Sky.

Total video subscriptions encompassing digital and analogue cable TV were also down from 422,700 in Q1 to 414,800 in Q2.
