Third quarter results from eir weather the storm

The costs of repairs over the Winter months failed to put a significant dent in telco eir’s bottom line, according to results for the Group’s third quarter to 31 March revealed today.

Revenue in the quarter of €321 million increased by 3% or €10 million compared to the same period in 2015.

Network repairs driven by the flooding cost €5 million.

The total Group’s broadband customer base was 836,000 at 31 March 2016, growing by 19,000 over the second quarter and 70,000 year-on-year. Wholesale broadband connections grew by 23,000 during the quarter, although retail retail broadband base declined by 4,000 in the quarter to 447,000

A total of 394,000 customers were using eir’s fibre-based broadband service at the end of the quarter, up 36,000 customers during the period and 152,000 since 31 March 2015. This represents 47% of the group’s broadband customer base and a 28% penetration of fibre premises passed.

Mobile revenue for the quarter was €87 million, and the Group’s mobile base stands at 1,078,000 at the end of March 2016. The prepaid customer base decreased by 41,000 during the twelve months to March 2016, however the postpay customer base increased by 34,000 since 31 March 2015. Postpay customers now account for 47% of the overall base, up from 43% a year ago.

Uptake of eir’s TV service was 49,000 customers, a 26% uptake by the fibre customer base.
