Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) has implemented an Ericom Connect solution to provide staff and students with secure, 24/7 managed access to a shared network and cloud-based learning applications. The deployment supports more than 3,500 users and their devices from any location.

ITB had a requirement to expand its web-based services for students could to access shared network drives and learning applications from any device, on and off- campus. ITB partnered with IT service provider Loughtec to implement an appropriate BYOD management strategy. Ericom Connect with its default browser-based access enabled students and staff to quickly get up and running without having to install any client-side software or plug-ins.

The solution also resolved a long-standing issue affecting students wanting to print on campus. Previously, students would often have to wait in line to use one of the on-campus computers. Now they simply upload documents via their own device and use the college Pay-for-Print application to print their material out on one of the on-campus printers.

“The wireless print experience is a great example of how Ericom Connect’s AccessNow HTML5 browser-based access has proven a very natural experience for end-users, ensuring a remarkably rapid take-up of services,” said Dave Curran, IT manager, ITB.  “Another great feature of Ericom Connect is its in-built reporting analytics which has significantly enhanced our license purchase and forecasting capability.”

“Our experience with ITB fully demonstrated the simplicity and versatility of the Ericom Connect access management platform,” said Cathal Green, director, Loughtec. “From a technical perspective the whole system was in and fully operational within two days without end-users reporting any noticeable service interruptions – as far as we are concerned there can be no higher praise than that.” Green added, “In addition to expediting a comprehensive BYOD management strategy, Ericom Connect’s centralised management capabilities have also saved ITB money by allowing them to repurpose approximately 100 aging PCs with security and full IT systems redundancy.”

“With Ericom Connect, we’ve brought into ITB’s data centre an easy to implement, fully operational managed access and BYOD solution, providing students and staff fully redundant managed access to the core applications and data they need to work and learn,” said Ilan Paretsky, vice president, Marketing, Ericom. “At the same time IT support staff are able to enjoy full, round-the-clock visibility and control over what is being accessed, by whom, when and where from.”
