A new Irish start-up has been launched that provides platform-agnostic data integration solutions for business. Ostia Solutions specialises in "rapid extraction of information from any number of sources, systems or databases so it may be combined and presented at the point of consumption – be it PC, tablet or mobile device," says its launch statement.

The company is headed by John Power, CEO, and its flagship product is called Portus which, said Power, empowers businesses "to unlock the value of corporate data resources as business information".

"Portus addresses customers who have considerable wealth of data locked up in multiple systems with a wide range of underlying technologies, database systems, operating environments and access mechanisms," said Power.

"Portus is a truly open and modern product. It has been built using the tools and technologies that have powered the social media revolution and applies them to the industry-wide problem of consistent and live access in real time to structured (and unstructured) data. It exploits the latest technologies to quickly and easily get at an organisation’s data wherever it is on the network, be it on mainframe or server, and present it (and modify, if required) to any network device, using business defined views. This is all achieved without making any application or database changes, creating duplicates of data or having to install any client software."

"We are convinced of the power of the Portus technology," added Ahmad Abu El-Ata, chairman, "when compared with the offerings of key market leaders, and its ability to address critical business needs. A number of business and technology executives have come together with me to develop an approach to exploit it-we sense that the markets are now ripe for a technology that enables businesses to realise the value of their stored information far more readily."
