Irish-owned cloud services and support company Auxilion has implemented a cloud computing and shared services platform for the National Sports Campus Development Authority (NSCDA).

Auxilion was awarded the contract, valued at €107,000, following a government e-procurement tender.

The NSCDA is responsible for the National Sports Campus at Blanchardstown and the Irish Sport HQ which accommodates the administrative headquarters of 19 national governing bodies of sport in Ireland, which employ a total of 80 staff between them.

“The project has helped the National Governing Bodies achieve savings with an enhanced service. It also helped to initiate the 2011 Programme for Government to promote greater use of e-government, IT shared services and cloud computing,” said David Conway, CEO, NSCDA. “Instead of the complexity and cost of 19 different vendors we now have one ICT supplier. The service includes the provision of enterprise class cloud-based video conferencing designed to reduce travel costs.”

Auxilion installed a VoIP corporate telephone system with call conferencing, call waiting, voicemail and reporting capabilities; and cloud transformation consultancy and services, including Windows Azure and Office 365. Ongoing technical support will be provided via Virtual Service Desk and an ITIL-aligned IT support desk.

“The NSCDA is a great example of how organisations can harness cloud-based shared services not only to cut costs but deliver even better ICT facilities for users,” said Paul Schmitz, chief sales officer, Auxilion.

“Cloud computing and shared services are rightly viewed as an integral part of the government’s Public Service Reform Plan due to considerable cost savings and ancillary benefits,” he added.

In 2012 the Public Service Cloud Computing Strategy recommended that government departments and bodies implement cloud computing solutions for more efficient delivery of public administration and services.
