Microsoft has designed a new iOS app called SmartGlass that enables Xbox owners to control their consoles using an iPad or iPhone.

The SmartGlass app, approved by Apple and now available for download from the App Store, enables users to navigate the Xbox 360 console interface; use the iPhone or iPad keyboard to enter text into the Xbox; play, pause, and rewind music from the Xbox, and send messages to Xbox friends.

Microsoft says: "Xbox SmartGlass lets your device work with your Xbox 360 console to bring rich, interactive experiences, and unique content about what you’re watching or playing".

Meanwhile, rumours continue that Microsoft is working on an 7in Xbox Surface gaming tablet to rival the iPad mini.
