Rapid7, a provider of security data and analytics solutions, has acquired UCD spin-out Logentries for $68 million in cash and equity.

Logentries was co-founded in 2010 by Dr Trevor Parsons and Dr Viliam Holub as a spin-out from UCD’s Performance Engineering Laboratory in the college’s School of Computer Science.  That year the company was named NovaUCD start-up company of the year and located at NovaUCD.

In December 2013 the NovaUCD innovation award was presented to Dr Parsons and Dr Holub in recognition of the global success and impact of Logentries in making log management and analytics more accessible.

Andrew Burton, chief executive officer, Logentries, said: “Rapid7’s leading position in the security data and analytics market gives us the opportunity to reach an evolving and expanding market that is looking for lower cost access to machine data, along with advanced security data collection and analytics.”

Logentries is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with a research and development team in Dublin. It has more than 3,000 customers in over 65 countries across a diverse set of industries and employs 70 staff, nearly all of whom joined Rapid7.
