F1 in Schools regional finalists gear up for national final

More than 80 teams nationwide battled it out to qualify for places in the National Final of F1 in Schools Technology Challenge which takes place in Dublin Castle on May 2nd. The F1 in Schools Technology Challenge is powered in Ireland by the Irish Computer Society, and supported by Discover Science and Engineering.

25 teams in total progressed to National level after four regional finals took place in Limerick, Mayo, and Dublin. The winning team from Dublin Castle on 1st May will go on to represent Ireland in the World Championships and compete against over 40 other countries from around the world. As well as this once in a lifetime trip, winning teams will also be presented with cash prizes and much more.

The F1 in Schools challenge is just one of the initiatives run by the Irish Computer Society to encourage ICT in education. “The regional finals are the first real opportunity for the students to showcase their cars after all their effort and it is always fantastic to see how enthusiastic the students are about the competition, from modelling and planning their cars, to racing them.” said Jim Friars, CEO of the Irish Computer Society.
