IEDR (IE Domain Registry), the independent company that manages and registers the .ie Internet domain, has been nominated for a prestigious international award for its Optimise Fund, which was established in 2011 to promote e-commerce and Web development amongst Irish SMEs.
The CENTR (Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries) Award for corporate and social responsibility recognises domain registry initiatives that promote digital inclusion, awareness and education, and promotion of internet resources and community.
IEDR’s Optimise Fund provides €150,000 worth of services and mentorship to Irish SMEs seeking to build and improve their online presence and e-commerce capability.
When the fifth programme launched earlier this year, IEDR revealed that 90% of Irish SMEs cannot process sales online, while six in 10 cannot take orders online whatsoever.
Fifteen winners shared this year’s Optimise Fund following a joint decision by a panel of judges and online voters.
David Curtin, CEO of IEDR (pictured), said: “E-commerce is essential for Irish businesses to compete for a share of the huge spending by Irish consumers currently buying from European and international websites.”
The CENTR Awards ceremony will take place in Brussels on 7 October.
