Brightwater Recruitment’s annual salary survey has some particularly good news for the IT sector. The recruitment firm recorded an 18% increase in the volume of contract IT jobs registered in 2013 compared to the previous year, with salaries up 10% on average.

In some areas companies are prepared to pay salaries above the rates of the boom years. For example, in 2007, a chief technical officer in Dublin was typically paid between €80,000 and €130,000. Now the same jobs are advertised at between €90,000 and €160,000. Companies are often forced into replacing staff with new staff on higher wages.

“There are a number of IT firms recruiting, some large well known US organisations but also lots of small to medium companies. At the moment there are a shortage of Irish candidates to fill these roles but we expect to see an increase in Irish graduates in these roles by 2015 and 2016,” said Hugh McCarthy, manager of Brightwater’s IT Division.

Other areas that saw a bump in performance were finance and accountance and engineering.
