Grid Finance has been named winner of the Inclusion Plus competition in Ireland, taking home the top prize of €25,000. The competition, which was open to entrepreneurs, businesses and non-profit organisations, aimed to discover innovative solutions to promote financial capability and access to financial services in Ireland.

The Grid Finance online platform serves as an intermediary between small Irish businesses who need multipurpose loans, and everyday Irish people looking to build wealth while investing in their local community.

Second place went to WeSavvy, while Basic Banking in Your Hand by FinTech Innovations, and Manage Your Money from the National Adult Literacy Agency and Initiative Ireland were each awarded €2,500. Three of the most promising semi-finalists won honorable mentions and €2,000.

Global life insurer, MetLife Ireland in conjunction with MetLife Foundation and Verb launched the competition to enable better access for low-to-moderate income people to quality financial products and services that encourage financial well-being.

“With such a diverse range of creative entries, this was a challenging competition but one we found very rewarding,” said Derek Butler, founder and CEO of Grid Finance.

MetLife Europe CEO Dirk Ostijn said: “We received an incredible array of creative and innovative submissions, and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Grid Finance and all our finalists.

“Inclusion Plus offered our MetLife Ireland colleagues the opportunity to give both their time and expertise to an initiative that will benefit not only individuals but also communities across the country. Financial knowledge and awareness is extremely important for households and we look forward to seeing continued innovation in the area as the entrants develop their initiatives.”

The Irish Inclusion Plus competition is part of a broader partnership between MetLife Foundation and Verb that will run across nearly a dozen countries over the next three years.
