Google reveals Nexus 9 tablet
Google has revealed its long-awaited Android tablet, the Nexus 9. Having finished its hardware collaboration with Asus, the Nexus 9 is Google’s first Nexus tablet developed with HTC. The move comes one day ahead of Apple’s event tomorrow at which it is expected a new line of iPads will be shown off.
The Nexus line is considered a ‘reference’ line showing off the capabilities of Android without bespoke apps from manufacturers. HTC, of course, has a long history with Android, going back to the HTC Dream – the first smartphone to use the open source operating system.
As expected, the Nexus 9 has an 8.9″ 2048×1536 display, measures 8.9×6.05x.31″ and weighs 436g. It has an Nvidia Tegra K1 64- bit dual core processor, 2Gb RAM and 8MP/1.6MP front/rear cameras with 1080p/720p video capture. Connectivity comes courtesy of 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, microUSB and Chromecast connectivity. It comes in three models: 16-, 32-, and 64Gg. All models come with expandable storage.
The Nexus 9 runs Android Lollipop (aka Android L) and comes with dual BoomSound speakers.
It will go on sale on 3 November. Pre-orders begin on 17 October.
