Fiach Mac Conghail is to take up the position of chief executive officer of the Digital Hub in October. Mac Conghaill is currently director and CEO of the Abbey Theatre, and was a Senator from 2011 to 2016.

He will replace interim CEO Gerry Macken, who will return to Dublin City Council in a senior role.

Paul Holden, chairperson of the board of the Digital Hub Development Agency (DHDA), welcomed the appointment. “Fiach will bring a wealth of experience, expertise and energy to the role which will be of major benefit to the Agency,” he said.

“He joins us at an exciting time of development and growth, and we look forward to working with him in the months and years ahead, which are full of both challenges and opportunities. Fiach will play a key role in delivering our strategy to develop the enterprise cluster in ways that benefit society and the economy, both locally and nationally.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mac Conghail said: “Supporting creativity and encouraging the imagination of others has been a constant passion and value in my professional career to date and this new role will enable me to continue with this passion.

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with the extraordinary and innovative digital media and technology companies in The Digital Hub. Helping to shape Ireland’s Digital Future and working with the vibrant and diverse communities of Dublin 8 was also a compelling reason for me to join The Digital Hub and I’m ready for this exciting new challenge.”

The Digital Hub is located in Dublin’s south-west inner city, in the historic Liberties area. It is currently home to almost 100 established digital businesses, employing just over 700 people.
