    DCU Hackathon

    DCU, Glasnevin, Dublin

PCH International, the company that designs custom manufacturing solutions for startups and Fortune 500 companies, announced today that it will host Ireland’s first dedicated Hardware Hackathon in partnership with the Dublin City University (DCU) Innovation Campus.  The two-day weekend event, taking place at DCU’s new Innovation Campus in Glasnevin, Dublin from September 12–14, will bring together makers, and Internet of Things (IoT) hardware enthusiasts to conceive and prototype connected devices.

The Hackathon will have capacity for approximately 100 participants, including: entrepreneurs, product designers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, developers and makers from across Ireland. Participants are encouraged to get creative and collaborate from concept stage to final pitch, aiming to develop innovative solutions and potentially create the next big thing in hardware.

The event will begin with attendees proposing ideas and forming teams. Participants can pitch their product ideas to the crowd and attract attendees to join their team. After the best ideas are voted on, the participants will work together in teams over 46 hours, starting after the pitches at 7.30pm on Friday, and working until the final presentation at 5.30pm on Sunday.

As well as offering assistance in developing ideas and articulating their vision, PCH and DCU Innovation Campus will provide each team with prototyping equipment including Arduino and Raspberry Pi kits with IoT connectivity solutions by Spark, BodyTrace and MbientLab. Intel will provide Galileo microcontroller boards and Irish company LayerLabz will offer 3D printing solutions. Teams will demonstrate their completed prototypes to a panel of judges including representatives from DCU, PCH, AIB, Cisco, Tyndall Institute, Design Partners and Frontline Ventures.

The Hackathon will conclude with a panel discussion at 7pm on Sunday focused on how startups and multinationals and other stakeholders can ensure that Ireland is a leading hub for the IoT.
