Cloud computing, storage and Big Data giant EMC Corporation has reported an increase of 11% in fourth quarter global revenue over the same period last year.

The company, which employs 3,000 people at its centre of excellence in Cork, reported fourth-quarter revenue was $6.7 billion, an increase of 11% compared with Q4 2012.

Full-year 2013 revenue was $23.2 billion, an increase of 7% year-on-year. This result was highlighted by 5% year-on-year revenue growth for EMC’s Information Infrastructure business, and 15% year-on-year revenue growth each for VMware and new data computing division Pivotal.

Bob Savage, vice president and managing director of EMC’s centre of excellence (CoE) in Cork, said: “EMC is at the heart of transformation in global IT where mobile, cloud computing and big data are the most high-tech innovations in modern technology.

“Through our CoE in Cork, one of the largest development sites outside the US, our skilled workforce, spanning 28 business units and exporting to more than 140 countries, are a critical piece in helping the company to lead a transformative era in information technology.”

New customers who deployed EMC solutions in Ireland last year include Tullow Oil, United Drug, HSE, Department of Education, Eircom, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and TSSG in Waterford IT.

Gerry Murray, EMC’s country manager in Ireland said: “Specifically, our strategy and leadership in the utilisation of Flash, converged infrastructure and data protection technology is resonating with our Irish customers who are taking a broader and increasingly innovative approach to their IT strategies. Further progress will be achieved in 2014 as more customers continue to deploy our new and already market leading products.

“Our client’s ability to leverage the EMC Federation together with VMware and Pivotal creates a powerful opportunity for them to create new revenue opportunities while reducing their IT costs.

For 2013, EMC generated operating cash flow of $6.9 billion and free cash flow of $5.5 billion, increases of 11% and 10% year over year, respectively. The company ended the year with $17.6 billion in cash and investments.
