Eircom second quarter results show ongoing broadband growth

Second quarter results from eircom released today have confirmed the telco’s position as the largest broadband provider in the country despite ongoing decline in revenue.

According to figures for the quarter ending 31 December 2014, eircom had 748,000 broadband connections, an increase of 17,000 for the quarter and 8% on the same time last year.

The high-speed eFibre service promising speeds up to 100Mb/s accounted for 202,000 customers, an increase of 30,000 over the previous quarter.

It was reported that the eVision TV service launched in 2013 gained 4,000 customers in the quarter, to a total of 32,000.

Combined figures for the eMobile and Meteor mobile services showed growth of 19,000 and 6,000 pre- and post-pay customers respectively. Eircom claimed a total of 1,090,000 mobile customers for the quarter-end with 210,000 accessing 4G services.

Up to 20% of customers were using either triple or quad-play bundles.

Overall, second quarter revenue of 316 million represented a decline of 4% year-on-year decline but still an improvement on the rate of decline from 7% the previous year.
