YouTube Video Downloader is a handy tool for downloading movies from YouTube and converting their format into something you can actually use.

The program's interface is a little on the basic side. There's no background process monitoring your clipboard for YouTube URLs, for instance: instead you must load YouTube Video Downloader and enter the clip address manually.

And there's no support for choosing your preferred clip resolution, either - the program makes that choice itself (hopefully picking the highest resolution, though we're not entirely sure).

This simplicity does at least mean YouTube Video Downloader is very easy to use, though. There are no complexities here, you'll know exactly what to do from the moment you've launched the program.

And there are some bonus features here. Despite the name, for example, YouTube Video Downloader can also grab movies from Blip TV, DailyMotion, Metacafe and Vimeo. And with an additional couple of clicks, you're able to convert the video to various formats (MP3, MPEG, H.263 3GP, iPhone-oriented MP4, iPod-friendly MOV). It's never going to compete with a specialist file conversion tool, but if your needs are basic then it could be ideal.

Final Verdict: YouTube Video Downloader is short on automation options, so for instance doesn't monitor the clipboard for YouTube URLs. It's easy to use, though, supports several popular sites and includes a handy (if basic) file format conversion option.
