Easily find and download free games
Game Downloader is a compact, portable client which will help you to locate and download more than 100 free games.
The games on offer are organised into multiple categories: Arcade, Board Games, First Person Shooter, Strategy and more. Just choose your favourite to see what's on offer. (Although this isn't necessarily very much. The Adventure category contains four games as we write, for instance.)
Select a particular game from the list and you'll see a little more about it: a text description, a screen shot, whether it supports single or multi-player gaming, whether you need an account, and more. Still not enough? In a click you can search YouTube for game videos, or head off to the game website for an in-depth description.
If you just want to play your selected game, though, a quick click of the Download button and Game Downloader will grab a copy of the installation file for you: easy.
There are some irritations here. The games are contained on a server-side database, for instance, which is great as the authors can (and do) regularly update the selection. But, it also makes for a lethargic interface, with a noticeable delay every time you click a new game as the screen grab is downloaded.
And, annoyingly, Game Downloader doesn't display the game download size up-front. You have to click a separate button for that, which then bizarrely displays this information in a system tray alert. Why? We've not the faintest idea.
Still, the program is an easy way to discover and download new, free games, so if you're a keen gamer then we'd definitely recommend you give it a try.
Final Verdict: The interface is occasionally odd, but Game Downloader remains a convenient tool which will help you to find and download some great free games
