Some of the new Lion improvements can be distracting, use this tweaking tool to switch them off
OS X Lion is the latest version of Appleās operating system and while it has received glowing reviews, many users have found that there are a number of irritating features and components. There are plenty of compelling reasons to make the move to Lion, but if you have become used to the way Snow Leopard works, you may be in for a surprise in the latest OS. For example, the addition of window animations that, after a while, particularly on a laptop, can prove distracting.
Tweaking tools are not hard to come by but Lion Tweaks is a little different. As the name suggests, the app has been designed for use with OS X Lion. The app has been developed to allow users to change settings that work differently to Snow Leopard as well as providing the option of disabling unwanted features that you either do not use or find annoying. You could perform many of these tweaks through Terminal, but this simple and basic tool enables you to make the changes without having to work about commands.
There are all manner of tweaks available here including the ability to disable permanent scrollbars as well as the new animation effects that accompany various events such as replying to emails. You can also prevent the appearance of the crash dialog, opt to display hidden files, change the appearance of iCal and Address Book and much more besides.
Lion Tweaks enables you to get the best of both worlds. You can benefit from the new features, speed improvements and security enhancements of OS X Lion, but retain the more familiar aspects of Snow Leopard that you have become used to over the years. Available completely free of charge, there is no reason not to try out this handy tweaking tool
Note that you can switch the tweaks back on if you realise, at a later date, you prefer the new Lion features after all.
Lion Tweaks v1.4 contains these new fixes/improvements:
-Minor bug fixes
-URL's now open in your default browser
-NEW TWEAK: Enable colours in the Finder sidebar
-NEW TWEAK: Enable iTunes Dock Animation
Final Verdict: The move to any new operating system can be a chore, but Lion Tweaks is a great free tool that helps to make things a little easier.
