Ryanair has taken delivery of seven rack-mounted Dell PowerEdge servers, running Microsoft Windows 2000. It is also being supplied with one Dell/EMC FC 4700, two Dell/EMC sixteen-port switches, in addition to Navisphere Manager, Analyzer and Snapview software. The hardware will be used to store mission-critical data.
The contract was negotiated through Dell Financial Services and included five years of Dell Premier Gold Enterprise support, supplied from the company's EMEA Expert Enterprise Support Centre at Bray. In the event of mission-critical systems failures, Dell will work to a two-hour response and six-hour on-site hardware repair.
'Faster response time is critical to our business,' said Brona Kernan, head of IT with Ryanair. 'Round-the-clock access to Dell engineers and seamless third-party application support helps ensure that we have maximum uptime.'
By standardising its servers, storage and software, Ryanair expects to make a significant reduction in its support and administration costs.
The partnership between Dell and EMC forms part of a worldwide five-year, multi-billion dollar strategic alliance agreement, announced late last year, aimed at growing both companies' storage systems businesses.
