Sillicon Valley becomes happy hunting ground for Irish social media entrepreneurs

Weedle, an Ireland-based Internet company, has announced it has raised $4 million to expand its social media platform in the U.S. and other global regions. The Weedle platform, currently in beta, enables users to connect with people who need their skills and also, to find people who have the skills they need.
Weedle's investors include Irish business entrepreneurs Dr. Michael Smurfit and Weedle co-founder and CEO, Iain MacDonald, as well as Enterprise Ireland.
The announcement was made during an Enterprise Ireland-supported Trade and Investment Mission to the U.S. led by Taoiseach Brian Cowen. Enterprise Ireland is the Irish state agency responsible for the development and promotion of the indigenous Irish business sector.
"Weedle is a leading-edge high tech company developing as part of Ireland's knowledge economy," said Cowen. "Weedle's Internet platform is a shining example of world class research and development being used to create innovative technology with global reach and appeal."
