Pharmaceutical wholesaler Cahill May Roberts (CMR) has installed AccessMyLan from O2, providing its staff with easy and secure remote access to the desktop and internal business IT applications while out of the office.

The wholesaler has also signed up to O2's mobile broadband service, letting employees access the internet at home, in the office or on the road using a portable USB modem. AccessMyLan is unique to O2 and complements its mobile broadband service

CMR's IT Manager, Keith McCauley, said the old system required users to input passwords at several points of the access process. "We wanted a system that could be easily installed, secure, low cost and straightforward to use."

CMR identified 19 key users for the AccessMyLan system, including directors, senior managers and sales account managers. It then looked at the cost of installing broadband access in their homes.

McCauley said: "Considering O2's offering of mobile broadband coupled with its AccessMyLan service, the decision was made to go with O2 - which worked out more cost effective for users."

O2 national sales manager David Ralph said CMR reported many benefits, including the ability of its IT department to provide remote support 24/7 from anywhere in the country." Improvements in the sales process and customer service have also been reported, with plans to roll out the system to more users who may benefit from remote access.
