RTE Player International
For: iOS
A persistent criticism of catch-up services is that they are limited to their broadcasters’ country of origin. As much as we’d like to benefit from on-demand content from abroad there’s no way of doing it without the use of additional software. RTE is tackling this issue by releasing an international version of its mobile app, making hundreds of hours of content available to iOS users based overseas.
To start, some 500 hours of material has been made available and updates will occur daily as with the domestic service.

Kilkenny Design Workshops
For: iOS
Kilkenny Design Workshops is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion it has released an iPad app outlining the history and function of the organisation. Features include reports, brochures, video content and fact sheets about the Workshops’ history and role in the Irish economy.

Selfish
For: Android
More than another photo app, Selfish recognises when you’re ready for your selfie close-up and takes a picture without having to reach around for the camera button. Modes include face detection, a self-timer and voice command. Once your selfie is taken you can run it through a range of filters to get the creative effect you want.
