A new open platform aimed at supporting the fundraising efforts of charities and provide an outlet for information on governance and regulatory compliance.

Through the designation of individual transparency scores based on a charity’s projects, financial reports and results, Altruism Ireland offers a free fundraising platform to Irish charities with no commission or membership fees, ensuring less money is spent on fundraising and administration and more ends up having a beneficial impact.

For charities fundraising presents significant costs with some reports showing that the cost of €1 through different techniques can be as high as 23c.

“Our main motivation in kick-starting change was frustration. We were tired of seeing all charities bunched together due to a lack of trust in the sector and too much money being wasted in transaction fees, so a few like-minded friends set out to start a platform in their spare time,” said John Clarke, co-founder of Altruism Ireland. By operating as a non-profit in the purest sense our aim is to live up to our name. Some things in life shouldn’t be made into a short-term profit-driven model, and for us, donating and fundraising for charity is one of them.”

Altruism Ireland is working with organisations from areas such as education, volunteer services, mental health, international development, and social services. It also plans to support charities on the opportunity connected to the use of the Web and to develop dedicated communication strategies with stakeholders.

According to the World Giving Index by the Charities Aid Foundation, Ireland ranks in the top five most charitable nations, and also of being one of the most efficient and transparent.
