AirFibre has launched a new symmetrical, uncontended connectivity service at 100Mbps for business leased lines. FibreLine 100, says the provider, brings new levels of performance and availability to what it has termed the “business broadband void”.

Airfibre said it coined the phrase “to highlight the inadequacy of telecoms infrastructure in meeting the needs and requirements of business customers”.  The company says that it is concerned and frustrated by “hyperbole” associated with domestic broadband services promoted to businesses which, it claims, is damaging in a B2B context.

The company argues that whilst fibre to the cabinet domestic services mark a step change for home users, the supporting infrastructure relies upon high contention ratios (typically 48:1) and is severely restrictive as a result of asymmetrical data rates where upload speeds can be limited to 10% of download capacity or as little as 500Kbps.

“The unpredictable nature of contended asymmetrical services makes them a high-risk proposition for businesses that depend upon their Internet connection to support telephony, cloud based services such as Office 365 and remote workers,” said John Earley, CEO, AirFibre. “Organisations wishing to send large files and data sets will be disappointed and frustrated.”

Airfibre said its modern IP network has been upgraded to enable it to supply central Dublin customers with 100Mbps FibreLine100 leased line circuits for €500 per calendar month. This, it claims, is “without quality compromise,” and pitches it commercially below the bottom end of traditional telco pricing for dedicated leased line services.

Utilising its own infrastructure, Airfibre said it is able to guarantee zero contention and fully symmetrical operation. Consequently, its customers are able to upload data as fast as they can download, with latency levels directly comparable to fibre-optic circuits.

The FibreLine100 services are supported by a 99.95% Service Level Agreement and a four-hour commitment to fix problems. The company said it has the capacity to deliver this as it only supports business customers, which means its dedicated engineering staff is available to assist 24x7x365, an advantage, it argues, not enjoyed by companies who also serve domestic customers.

“The Business Broadband Void”, said Earley, “is the culmination of factors in the Irish communications market. Improperly positioned quality of communications services, poor availability and dreadful support services that combine to frustrate the business community. Airfibre is on a mission to address these fundamental issues with affordable industrial strength Internet and communications services.”
