The Young Social Innovators website and new Social Innovation Hub has been nominated as the Irish entry to the 2013 World Summit Award (WSA) in the e-Inclusion & Empowerment category.
The Hub, developed by Young Social Innovators with the support of Vodafone Ireland Foundation, is an online space for young people to share and create activities which promote positive social change.
The project will compete against almost 500 e-content products and applications from 168 countries in front of the WSA’s Grand Jury from 29-31 August Tallinn, Estonia.
The categories of the World Summit Award (WSA) are e-Government & Open Date; e-Health & Environment; e-Learning & Science; e-Entertainment & Games; e-Culture & Tourism; e-Media & Journalism; e-Business & Commerce; and e-Inclusion & Empowerment.
In the first round of the international competition, an online jury will evaluate the ventures, creating a shortlist of 15-20 projects in each of eight categories.
After this, the WSA Grand Jury, consisting of ICT experts and industry leaders, will meet in Tallinn to select the 40 best products in a three-day process.
After the selection in Estonia, the 40 WSA winners will get the chance to present their products at the WSA World Congress in Sri Lanka on 23-25 October where the overall winners will be announced.
The World Summit Award (WSA) is the global initiative of the United Nations World Summit on Information Society organised by the International Center for New Media in Salzburg, Austria. It partners with tUN organisations and agencies in the framework of the UN Geneva Agenda and the Tunis Action Plan and selects and promotes the world’s best e-Content and innovative ICT applications.
Young Social Innovators is a not for profit organisation.
