Clare County Library music project strikes right note Clare County Library music project strikes right note

Online archive celebrates trad heritage

TechLife | 28 Sep 2012 :  Clare's traditional music heritage is being celebrated through an online project by Clare County Library and Clare Arts Office.

The Music of Clare features videos, audio, and historical articles and biographies and music of some of Clare's best known traditional music artists - including Martin Hayes, Micho Russell, Willie Clancy and Sharon Shannon (pictured) - to place the material in context.

"The library service in Clare offers a wide range of music for lending throughout the county, and we have had a very strong traditional music collection in Miltown Malbay for many years. This new online project will allow immediate access to all those interested in the music of Co. Clare, and will greatly enhance the existing historical and cultural resources on the library website itself," said Clare County Librarian Helen Walsh.

Project manager and senior executive librarian Anthony Edwards said: "We want members of the public to be able to listen to traditional tunes associated with Co. Clare, played by musicians who are from the county or who have lived in it for many years."
