Bus passengers across Dublin are now able to check the actual arrival time of their bus at all 5,000 Dublin Bus stops using a new website, text service, and iPhone App.
Dublin Bus is the first transport provider to offer the new service which is an initiative of the National Transport Authority and delivered with the technical assistance of Dublin City Council. All stops in Dublin have a unique identification number, clearly visible, which passengers use to check their own bus stop by website, phone or text to know in real time when their bus is due to arrive at that stop. The Transport for Ireland website will also provide real time passenger information for Bus Éireann, Luas and other transport operators in the months ahead.
Gerry Murphy, CEO, National Transport Authority, said: "We're very pleased to have developed this service which will allow people to use public transport more effectively and reliably in their daily journeys. We are working with Bus Éireann, Irish Rail, Luas and private bus operators to join the Transport for Ireland service, to offer a truly integrated information system for users."
Paddy Doherty, CEO, Dublin Bus, said: "The entire Dublin Bus fleet is now equipped with a system which allows staff to identify the location of each bus on our network and their progress towards bus stops along each route. The launch of our real time passenger information app for iPhone and feature on our website together with electronic signage and our Network Direct programme, form part of our commitment to Dublin Bus passengers to maintain and improve our delivery of quality bus services throughout the region."
The bus arrival information service can be accessed at either TransportforIreland.ie or dublinbus.ie/en/rtpi.
